In Vitro Bulblet Formation from Various Explant Sources and Sizes of Bulbscale Segment in Lilium elegans Hybrid

Abstract
The present experiments were carried out to investigate effective culture medium and optimum temperature, feasibility of the bulblet production as to various explant source of asiatic hybrid lily plant, and bulblet formation of bulbscale segments excised from different positions and segnent sizes of Lilium elegans hybrid ¢¥Odasetsuka¢¥ X ¢¥Inferno¢¥ in vitro. Numerous and large size of adventitious bulblet were produced on bulbscale cultured at 23¡É in Murashige and Skoog medium. And also, bulbil scales seem to be regarded feasible for the productoin of the hybrid lily bulblet. When the bulbscales dissected transversally,a total of 15.6 bulblets was formed on one healthy bulb scale cut into 4 segments. Much larger and heavier bulblets were produced from the bottom position of bulbscales than the upper part. When the bulb scale was cut longitudinally, a total of 32.2 bulblets was generated on one bulb scale splited into 5 segments compared to 2 bulblets on non-divided bulbscale. More multiple and larger bulblets were differentiated on inner parts, especially inner-most parts of the bulbscale than outer one.
